Techo-Bloc Patio and Pergola Base Build in Lebanon NJ

This Lebanon, NJ backyard had a lot of potential - just no real usable space to show for it. A wide open yard is great, but without a defined area to sit, entertain, or just unwind, most of that space goes to waste. That's exactly what this client wanted to fix.

We went with Techo-Bloc Eva Slate pavers in Shale Grey for the patio surface. It's a clean, slate-textured paver with a refined look that holds up well over time. The color works with just about any exterior palette, which made it a natural fit here. Paired with a Semma retaining wall along the back edge, the whole setup feels structured and intentional - not just pavers dropped in the ground.

The pergola base is set and anchored directly into the patio. Getting that right matters more than most people realize. A pergola that isn't properly integrated into the hardscape can shift, settle unevenly, or cause drainage issues down the road. We built this one to move as a single unit - the patio, the wall, and the pergola footings are all part of the same system.

There's also a paver walkway stepping out from the patio toward the lawn. Small detail, but it ties everything together and gives you a clear path from the yard into the space. That kind of flow makes a big difference in how a backyard actually gets used day to day.

Hardscaping done right isn't just about how it looks on day one. It's about how it performs five, ten, fifteen years from now.
