A backyard can have a deck, a fence, even some nice plantings - and still feel like it's missing something. No real gathering spot. No focal point. Just open space that doesn't quite get used the way it should. That's usually what we're solving when a homeowner calls us about a patio build.
This Hillsborough backyard is a good example of how the right hardscaping pulls everything together. We laid a large Techo-Bloc paver patio as the main surface, using a staggered pattern that gives the space a clean, natural stone look without the upkeep. Techo-Bloc is a premium paver line - built to handle freeze-thaw cycles, hold its color, and last for decades. It's not the cheapest option, but it's the kind of product that still looks sharp ten years from now.
The Valencia fire pit sits right in the center of it all. Built from textured concrete block that ties into the paver color, it gives the space a permanent anchor. Something to sit around at night. And with a separate upper patio area for the grill, the layout naturally separates cooking space from the fire pit seating zone - which makes a big difference when you're actually using the yard.
We also ran a Techo-Bloc paver walkway along the side of the house, giving the property a connected, finished feel from front to back. Then came the landscaping side - fresh mulch in the planting beds, topsoil, and grass seed to fill things in and clean up everything that got disturbed during the build. It's the part that a lot of hardscaping crews skip, but it matters. A lot.
When you're spending real money on a patio, you want the whole yard to look like it belongs together. That's what we aim for on every job - not just a nice hardscape sitting in the middle of a rough yard, but a finished outdoor space that's actually ready to use.
