Your front entry is the first thing people see. If the walkway leading to your door feels dated, uneven, or just plain uninviting - that sets the tone before anyone even knocks. This Flemington, NJ home had a lot going for it already. Stone facade, mature trees, solid curb presence. It just needed a hardscape element that could match that character.
We went with Techo-Bloc Eva Slate pavers for the walkway and entry area. That product has a great slate-textured surface that gives it a natural, high-end look without feeling overdone. The color blends warm tan and cool charcoal tones, which pulled nicely against the existing stone on the house. We framed the whole thing with a valet border to give it a finished edge - clean lines make a big difference on a job like this.
The entry step was finished with a Semma unit topped with York cap block. That combination gives you a durable, well-defined transition from walkway to door. It's the kind of detail that's easy to overlook in the planning phase but makes the finished product feel intentional and complete.
One of the more interesting design decisions here was the curved walkway leading from the driveway toward the entry. Working around mature trees and existing landscaping takes patience and planning. A straight path wasn't going to work with the natural flow of the property, so the curve was the right call - both functionally and visually. It follows the land instead of fighting it.
That's what good hardscaping comes down to. Choosing the right materials, paying attention to the details, and designing around what's already there rather than ignoring it. This entry went from functional to genuinely welcoming - and it'll hold up through every New Jersey winter without losing that look.
